Human Rights Security and Justice Council has demanded strict action and suspension of five police personnel attached to Nanded Rural Police Station over allegations of illegal assault, abuse, and threats against two brothers.

According to the complaint submitted to the Superintendent of Police by Maharashtra State President Mursaleen A. Sheikh, the incident occurred on May 20, 2026, at around 10 PM. Approximately five police personnel from the rural police station allegedly arrived at the residence of Sheikh Mohsin Sheikh Babu and assaulted him and his brother without providing any valid reason, while also abusing them verbally.

The complaint further states that Sheikh Sohel Sheikh Babu is physically disabled and suffers from asthma. Despite his serious health condition, he was allegedly forcibly taken to the police station and beaten again.

When the brothers questioned the reason behind the action, the accused police personnel allegedly threatened them by saying, “We are the police; we can do anything. We will implicate you in false theft cases.”

The family has claimed that they were not present in Nanded at the time of the alleged theft incident and were attending a wedding function in Yavatmal district. According to the complaint, even the house owner reportedly informed the police that he trusted the brothers and did not suspect them.

It has also been alleged that after the assault, the victims approached a private hospital for treatment, but were denied medical care after being told that it was a “police matter.” They later received treatment at a government hospital, where they were allegedly refused a medical certificate.

The Human Rights Security and Justice Council has demanded an impartial investigation into the entire matter, immediate suspension of the accused police personnel, strict legal action against those found guilty, and protection and justice for the victims.

The incident has created a stir across Nanded district, with several social and human rights organizations expressing serious concern over the allegations.
